Silence on the sidelines is intended to be a fun, light-hearted and positive initiative, not a punishment or a ban on supporting your team.

We are not asking spectators to be completely silent every week, nor are we asking parents to stop encouraging their children. Positive support, cheering and celebrating are all part of what makes football such a great community sport.

Instead, for one weekend, we are asking parents and spectators to take a step back from the constant instructions and sideline coaching, and to give the game back to the players. Let them make the decisions, solve problems, make mistakes, try things, and enjoy playing.

We know that most comments from the sideline come from a good place. Parents want to help, encourage and see their children succeed. But sometimes, even with the best intentions, a constant stream of instructions can build up. Particularly in MiniRoos, what starts as enthusiastic encouragement can quickly become overwhelming, and when emotions rise, the sideline can become a much less positive place for everyone.

Silence on the Sidelines is simply a fun way of encouraging everyone to pause, reflect and hopefully see things differently.

So this weekend, we encourage everyone to embrace the challenge and enjoy the novelty of it. Cheer when your team scores, applaud a great pass, and celebrate a save, just leave the playing to the players and the coaching to the coaches!
